Global Launch: 'S-Booster' in Asia

The Quantum Leap are proud to support the global launch of 'S-Booster' in Asia with National Space Policy Secretariat.

S-Booster is a business idea contest, organised by the National Space Policy Secretariat (NSPS), the Government of Japan, inviting space-based business ideas from Asia and Oceania regions. The contest facilitates the realisation of each business idea through open innovation with Japanese companies and provides financial support, business coaching and other assistances.

* The registration site will be open with more details of S-Booster 2019 on March 1.

APPLICATION

From March 1, 2019 to April 19, 2019 (Japan Standard Time)

APPLICANT

Individuals and groups in the Asia and Oceania regions, who have yet to receive venture capital financing, are qualified to apply for “S-Booster 2019”.

(It does not matter whether or not they belong to companies or others.)

CATEGORIES

• Business idea, based on the themes(*) which are proposed by Japanese companies

• Business idea, using the “Japanese Space Asset”(**) such as QZSS (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System)

• Space-Based Business idea, seeking for the collaboration with Japanese companies

(*)The details will be announced on March 1.

SCHEDULE

• Semi-Final Round (Asia Round) in Thailand on May 30 or 31, 2019

• Mentoring between June and October 2019

• Final Round in Tokyo in November 2019

Dr. Josh Lerner, Jacob H. Schiff Professor of Investment Banking and Unit Head, Entrepreneurial Management, Harvard Business School will share his deep analysis of the latest global trends in venture capital investment.

A graduate of Yale and Harvard, Dr Lerner worked for several years on issues concerning technological innovation and public policy at the Brookings Institution, for a public-private task force in Chicago, and on Capitol Hill.

Dr Lerner’s leading research is collected in three books, The Venture Capital Cycle, The Money of Invention, and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. He also examines policies on innovation and how they impact firm strategies. He co-directs the US National Bureau of Economic Research’s Productivity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Program, and serves as co-editor of their publication, Innovation Policy and the Economy. Dr Lerner also founded and runs the Private Capital Research Institute, a non-profit devoted to encouraging access to data and research, and has been a frequent leader of and participant in the World Economic Forum projects and events.

Dr Lerner’s MBA subject “Venture Capital and Private Equity” has consistently been one of the largest elective courses at Harvard Business School for over two decades. He also established and teaches doctoral courses on entrepreneurship and leads executive courses on private equity. Among other honours, he is the winner of the Swedish Government’s Global Entrepreneurship Research Award and Cheng Siwei Award for Venture Capital Research.

With 2019 marking the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing, we are proud to announce our partnership with The Quantum Leap Program & OneGlobalVenture to showcase the future of SpaceTech in Victoria.

Our focus on SpaceTech in February will profile and showcase both leaders and up-and-coming startups that are revolutionising and empowering the SpaceTech industry.

What is SpaceTech?

Space technology encompasses the provision and use of space-related technologies and services, including Space Science; Environmental monitoring and meteorology; Remote Sensing; Satellite components and sub-systems; GPS Data and Telecommunications; Big Data Analytics; Space Education; and professional services related to all of the above (legal, financial, insurance etc).

The Pitch Night:

Startup Victoria are proud to partner with The Quantum Leap Program and OneGlobalVenture to showcase 4 startups working within the SpaceTech sector, as they pitch to a panel of hand-picked, expert judges as well as our usual community of founders, startups, investors and more. They will also be pitching to win the Startup Victoria Prize Package below.
